People always ask me “when is the best time of day to work out?”.
Simple answer:
“whenever you will do it, and KEEP doing it”.
Now, in theory, that’s true. Since success depends upon consistency & effort, spearheaded of course by showing up!
Here is a little more scientific answer:
There are two waves to consider.
The first is PERFORMANCE.
Both aerobic & strength performance is at peak when the body is warm. Studies show that basal body temp is highest late-afternoon/early evening (about 3-5pm). For people just starting a training program, performance is markedly WORSE in the early am.
That being said, consistently training a a specific time (i.e daily practices in a.m) decrease this difference as the body adapts to performance at that time.
The second thing to consider is METABOLIC EFFECT.
Meaning: the effect exercise has on the body’s ability to burn calories. Studies over time have shown that exercise done in the morning will increase blood flow & increase metabolism level throughout the day – leading to burning more calories over the course of the day.
All that clarified I return to my original statement. Which ever part of the day works FOR YOU, gets you to keep showing up, is the BEST time for you. Morning, afternoon or night. #justdoit
Now let’s get out there and MAKE AMAZIN HAPPEN!
